EXCLUSIVE: Comedian Zach Rushing talks rise in popularity, battling cancer ahead of Jax show

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Comedian Zach Rushing will be making a stop in Jacksonville as part of his Redneck Logic Tour. The standup comic will be performing at Five on August 22. I got the chance to sit down with Rushing ahead of his upcoming show to talk about his social media videos turned into a standup career, battling cancer, and deer meat.

Rushing tells me he was playing football at the University of Wyoming and was admitted into the university’s law school before finding out he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. “Believe it or not, a lot of people don’t realize this: when you’re faced with this much adversity at one time, you have a decision to make in life: do you want to be here or do you not want to be here?” recalls Rushing. “The way that I look at life now because of all the stuff I had to go through with cancer and radiation and chemo and whatnot, is I’m happy to be here and every day is a holiday. It’s like I’m in the bonus round; I’m trying to live life to the fullest, and I believe that the best way to make this world better is to make people laugh.”

You can hear more about how Rushing got into comedy and how a show in Montana turned into a hardware store visit in the full interview.

Tickets to see Zach Rushing at Five are on sale now.
