August 26, 2016, Ann Wilson’s husband is arrested backstage at a Heart concert for assault. The assault perpetrated on sister Nancy’s twin 16-year-old boys. Now this causes a rift between the sisters, and for a while they don’t tour together or record together, but eventually they do patch things up.
Today in 2000, sadly, we lose bassist from both the Allman Brothers Band and government mule Allen Woody.
On this day in 1980, Tom Petersson, bassist from Cheap Trick, leaves the band. He doesn’t return until 1988 for the “Lap of Luxury” album, which includes their big hit, “The Flame.”
Today in 1977, Kiss played the first of three nights at the Forum in Inglewood, California. These shows are compiled to become their live album, “Alive II”, which gets released that October.
On this day in 1970, Duane Allman asks Eric Clapton if he can stop by the sessions that Eric has for his new band, Derek and the Dominos. Eric says, yeah, you can stop by, but if you stop by, you have to play. And he very famously did.
Also today in 1970, the Isle of Wight festival kicks off. Five days, which includes performances by the likes of Jethro Tull, Miles Davis, ELP, The Doors, The Who, Moody Blues, Chicago, Free, and what would end up becoming Jimi Hendrix’s final UK appearance.
