Former President Barack Obama on Monday told talk show host James Cordon that videos taken by U.S. military pilots and others show unidentified flying objects that “we don’t know exactly what they are.”
Obama, speaking to Cordon on “The Late, Late Show,” said that U.S. government officials are not sure what the videos are capturing, and can’t explain how those objects can dart and move in the way they do.
“What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,” he said.
“We can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory. They did not have an easily explainable pattern,” Obama continued.
Obama joked with Cordon that one of the first things he did after being sworn in as president was to ask if there was a secret lab he needed to know about that was collecting information about aliens.
“When I came into office, I asked, is there the lab somewhere where we’re keeping the alien specimens and spaceship?
“They did a little bit of research and the answer is no,” he joked.
Obama’s appearance Monday came after a “60 Minutes” report that saw the former director of the defense department’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program acknowledge the possible existence of UFOs.
Luis Elizondo told “60 Minutes” that some of the sightings reported by the military and others don’t have explanations.
“We’re going through our due diligence. Is it some sort of new type of cruise missile technology that China has developed? Is it some sort of high-altitude balloon that’s conducting reconnaissance? Ultimately when you have exhausted all those what-ifs and you’re still left with the fact that this is in our airspace and it’s real, that’s when it becomes compelling, and that’s when it becomes problematic,” Elizondo said.
The interviews with Obama and Elizondo came as a video of an unidentified object captured by U.S. Navy pilots was released this week in advance of a report expected to be given to Congress next month concerning the growing number of reports of unidentified objects.
The video, recorded in July 2019, appears to show a spherical object darting in the sky before plunging into the waters of the Pacific Ocean near San Diego.
Last year, the Department of Defense released previously classified videos of encounters between U.S. military pilots and unidentified flying objects. According to The New York Times, the incidents were investigated by a little-known Pentagon program called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program that has for years looked into reports of unidentified flying objects.
The existence of the office was first reported by The Times in December 2017, according to an article about the program.
