Burrow, the overall No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, was carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday’s contest against Washington after the pocket collapsed, and the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner came up clutching his left knee, NFL.com reported.

An MRI on Monday revealed more significant damage than first thought, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.

CBS opted not to air a replay of the injury Burrow suffered after being sandwiched by two Washington defenders, as they pressured the former LSU standout on a third-and-2 pass attempt.

According to ESPN, Burrow had been on track to become the first rookie in league history to post six 300-yard passing games in the first 10 games of a season. He completed 22 of 34 passes on Sunday for 203 yards, one touchdown and one lost fumble prior to his injury.

The entire Bengals’ sideline rallied around their fallen quarterback as he was carted off the field and were joined by Washington’s Chase Young, Terry McLaurin and Dwayne Haskins in offering encouragement. Young, McLaurin and Haskins were all former Ohio State University teammates of Burrow’s before he transferred to LSU, ESPN reported.
