Artist of the Decade: Drake to be honored during 2021 Billboard Music Awards

It’s official.

Drake will be honored as the Artist of the Decade for the 2010s during the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, slated to air May 23.

According to Billboard, the honor is based on the activity on its “Hot 100 songs” chart, the Billboard 200 albums tally, social media data and touring revenue reported to Billboard Boxscore between Dec. 5, 2009, through Sept. 28, 2019.

The 34-year-old rapper has collected 27 Billboard Music Awards, making him the most awarded artist in the show’s history, charted eight No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and placed nine No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, People magazine reported.

Meanwhile, the “Hotline Bling” performer is also the only solo male artist to have more than 50 career weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart out of a record 232 songs, of which 45 ranked in the top 10, the outlet reported.

Drake is also a finalist in seven categories for the 2021 awards show, after taking home 12 prizes in 2019, Billboard reported.

According to Billboard, the top 10 artists for the 2010s are as follows:

3. Bruno Mars

4. Rihanna

5. Adele

6. Ed Sheeran

7. Justin Bieber

8. Katy Perry

9. Maroon 5

10. Post Malone

The annual awards show previously announced its 2021 nominees, led by The Weeknd with 16 nominations, followed by DaBaby with 11 nods and the late Pop Smoke with 10 nominations, People reported.
