Damian Lillard drops 60 points against Jazz, narrowly misses career-high after wild third quarter run

Damian Lillard went off on Wednesday night at the Moda Center.

It just wasn't quite enough to set a new career-high.

Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard dropped 60 points in the Trail Blazers' 134-124 win over the Utah Jazz. It marked the 15th 50-point game in his career, which is the sixth-most in NBA history, and the fourth time in his career he’s had at least 60 points, the third-most in NBA history.

Lillard, after dropping 26 points in the first half, scored 24 points in the third quarter alone. He even closed out the period on a solo 20-point run for the Trail Blazers, and hit the 50-point mark with a full minute left in the third.

It took Lillard a bit to add to that total. He sat the first few minutes of the fourth quarter, and then hit a fadeaway shot from the short corner near the halfway mark to get to 52. He got to 60 points with about 90 seconds left after hitting a pair of free throws, which put Portland up by 14 points.

Utah started pulling its starters soon after, too, all but ensuring the win for the Blazers with Lillard short of his career-high. He got one final look with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, but he was just off the mark.

Lillard finished with 60 points after shooting 21-of-29 from the field and 9-of-15 from behind the arc. He added eight assists and seven rebounds, too.
