September 4th, 1986, Gregg Allman is arrested in Bellevue, Florida. A police officer sees him weaving on Route 441 in his Trans Am, pulls him over, gives him a sobriety test. Greg blows a 0.27. Legal limit at the time, 0.10. That means Gregg’s nearly three times that. He’s arrested for drunken driving and driving with an expired license. He’s sentenced to five days in jail and community service. His community service is to play an alcohol and drug-free graduation party for area high schools, He serves his five days in jail in January of 1987, appropriately enough, about a month before he releases his solo record, I’m No Angel.
Today in 1976, Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled album goes to number one on the charts a year after it comes out. It knocks out Peter Frampton’s “Frampton Comes Alive” from the top spot. Now this is the first album that features Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Then on this day in 1970, The Rolling Stones released their live album, “Get Yer Ya Yas Out.” This is the first album they have that features Mick Taylor on every song. Now one of the songs is recorded in Baltimore, otherwise the rest of the album recorded over a couple of nights at Madison Square Garden and this becomes the first live album to go to #1 on the charts in the UK.
And as we look at today’s calendar, we find a rock birthday on it, drummer from the Pretenders, Martin Chambers.
