Artist Naomi Fisher works in photography, painting, and digital media to explore the chaotic opposition between Nature and the structured forces of culture and civilization. The daughter of a botanist, she was born and raised in Miami, where the wild/untamed tropical environment famously serves as the backdrop to the population's tendency toward artifice and materialistic excess. Fisher frequently explores this culture clash in her work through the lens of feminist theory and strategies derived from surrealist art. This evolved into an art practice grounded in painting, photography, and performances in the late 90's. Since then her work has evolved into performances and videos investigating movement, landscape, costume and adornment. She is committed to the exploration and preservation of Florida's natural environment, and combines these concerns within her art practice.
