Our Gainesville/Alachua community is making a huge difference in the lives of children in rural Cambodia. For every 1,000 babies born in Cambodia, 95 die in their first year - one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. One in every eight Cambodian children dies between birth and age 5. Those who survive to school age have limited educational opportunities, which perpetuates the cycle of poverty, disease and death.
Our Gainesville/Alachua community, together with the Rotary Club of Gainesville, is changing the lives of thousands of Cambodian children and their families. Clean water and sanitation, nutrition programs, and schools with over 3,500 students are cultivating healthy, educated young people who now have a hopeful future. And Sustainable Cambodia’s unique model is much more than “aid” - it empowers the villager families through sustainable economic development, education and training.
