Please note our new address:Adecco Building 10151 Deerwood Park Boulevard Jacksonville, FL 32256 Abstract:             An "accidental DBA" is a SQL Server administrator who has been thrust into the task without having the complete experience or know how required to keep SQL running at peak performance. This is not their fault and is purely due to the fact that they have not been exposed to it before. If you are a DBA and find yourself wondering how hardware changes affect performance or have questions relating to the performance implications of partitioning or compression, then this session is for you. In this session, I will be exploring topics such as Memory configuration, CPU options, IO considerations, partitioning, compression and database file placement. Prerequisites:             The target of this session is production SQL Server DBA’s or developers who have average T-SQL skills already. This session assumes that you have a basic understanding of SQL Server fundamentals. For example, you should, ideally, be familiar with the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) interface and associated toolbox items before attending this session. Bio: Gareth Swanepoel is a sysadmin-turned-SQL Server DBA. He has been working in the IT industry doing support and administration for almost 20 years. He enjoys solving the complex problems that his clients encounter when deploying SQL Server in a data warehouse environment. He is originally from South Africa and currently lives in the quiet outskirts of Jacksonville, Florida. He is a member of the Pragmatic Works SEAL Team with a focus on Fast Track Data Warehouses, PDW and Infrastructure Tuning. Current projects include contributing content for the Professional SQL Server 2012 Administration book, SQL Server 2012 for the DBA training class and SSWUG DVD and various high-volume data warehouse speaking engagements at user groups and SQL Saturdays.
