News Release: Left Bank Art Gallery celebrates the coming of Spring with new Art Exhibit February 1, 2013 Art Gallery appeals to all of the senses For more information: Dayna Caldwell: 912-638-3017, Dayna@LeftBankArtGallery.com The human sensorial indulgence in springtime will be the focus of “Spring Enchantment: Featuring paintings by Ken Wallin Missy Vanover, & David Whitty” on display from March 15 through April 30 at the Left Bank Art Gallery. The exhibition holds true to Gallery Director, Mildred Wilcox’s philosophy on approaching all of the humanities. “It is important for art, literature, and theater to play to all of our senses. Great masterpieces have a way of captivating even those hard to reach corners of the human mind,” states Wilcox. An opening reception will be held Friday, March 15 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Left Bank Art Gallery. This event is free and open to the public. The artwork will be available for viewing online at www.LeftBankArtGallery.com The stimulating event will indeed seek to pique guests’ 5 senses: smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing. Gallery Manager Dayna Caldwell describes how this feat will be achieved: “Guests will see the dazzling colors used by artists Missy Vanover and Ken Wallin as well as the realism portrayed in David Whitty’s vivid compositions and the floral photography of Tina Clune. To appeal to guest’s ears, we will have live piano music playing favorites reminiscent of Spring jubilance. For tasting pleasure, we will serve fresh bites and a special spring punch. Glistening floral arrangements will provide a fragrant air about the gallery spaces. Lastly, and probably the most difficult to attend to is the feeling of touch. Although we do not encourage guests to touch the oil paintings, the work of both Missy and Ken contain wonderful impasto, areas of thickly applied paint, which provide a striking texture to their compositions. This texture truly calls for viewers to reach out and be transported to another place.” The exhibition reintroduces the community to oils by Missy Vanover of Ponte Vedra, Florida, who has not shown work in the gallery for close to 6 years and photography by Tina Clune of Carollton, Georgia, a long-time advisor to the gallery whose work has been shown in the past. Ken Wallin of Wallin Gallery and David Whitty are well-known local artists who will be showing some of their newest canvases. A small, accompanying exhibition called “Christ Church Renditions,” will showcase oil paintings of the historic landmark by Jack Chilton, Mildred Huie, Ken Wallin, and others in honor of this month’s Christ Church Tour of Homes. “Spring Enchantment,” which will run until April 30, 2013, is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours (Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm). For more information on the exhibition, visit www.LeftBankArtGallery.com. The Left Bank Art Gallery is located at 3600 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522.
