5:30 pm:  Dinner and networking with fellow CBIG members6:00 pm:  Presentation by Bill Pearson, MVP, Island TechnologiesTopic:   An Overview of PowerPivot for ExcelSession Description:  In this session, Microsoft BI Architect and SQL Server MVP Bill Pearson explores "Self-Service BI" as a concept.  He then provides a walkthrough of the primary features of PowerPivot, focusing on how we can exploit its capabilities to offer the benefits of BI to decision makes and analysts throughout our organizations.  "There is no service like self-service...."  This session applies equally to SQL Server an Analysis Services 2008, 2008R2, and 2012 Data Sources.  Objectives:  (1) Impact an understanding of Self-Service BI, including the advantages and challenges that accompany its introduction to the enterprise.  (2) Overview of the architecture and uses of PowerPivot for Excel 2010 within the organization to support Self-Service BI.  (3) Explore and demonstrate the assembly of data from diverse sources into models that deliver business intelligence upon demand, including exposure to accessing and relating data, and employing the Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) language, to construct PowerPivot applications that support analysis and reporting throughout the enterprise.Level:  IntroductoryAbout CBIG: The Charlotte BI Group (http://www.charbigroup.com) is a technical user group focused on Business Intelligence topics.
