Location: University Auditorium Info: (352) 392-0223UF School of Music presents a two-part concert: Graduate Conducting Recital with Yulene Velasquez and the University Choir Fall ConcertThe first 30 minutes of the concert will be a graduate recital by Yulene Velásquez. Her part of the concert will feature the men of the choir on a very difficult Villa Lobos work and an arrangement by her of a Venezuelan (she is from Venezuela) piece.UF School of Music Program Director and Professor, Will Kesling, will perform his Fall Concert during the second half. His part of the concert will feature selected works that he and the Chamber Singers performed in Buga, Colombia. They will do a gorgeous lush Sanctus by Ola Gjeilo. The center piece will be Eric Whaitacre’s Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine. It certainly is one of his most creative works with its two-soprano texture and frequent musical references to Claudio Monteverdi’s (1567-1643) writing. The libretto bréve is by Charles Silvestri with Italian fragments taken from the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. The work is dramatic, extravagant, and elegant all at the same time. Da Vinci was the first to sketch a wing flying machine and also a helicopter. Prepare for a wild flight with the American composer Mr. Whitacre and the Renaissance genius Signore Da Vinci.
